Toivo Hannigan is a guitarist/composer born and raised in the twin cities, and a graduate of Berklee college of music in Boston. Toivo has elbowed his way onto the Minnesota Jazz scene by becoming a member of many of the more forward thinking ensembles and performances. His playing and compositions are featured in the awesome and well reviewed recent Jake Baldwin CD release. He’s a musician’s musician and is particularly inventive and thoughtful in his use of electronics and effects in his playing. This particular quintet aims to push the boundaries of a 5 piece ensemble as well as emulate the tradition in its stead. Strap yourselves in and be prepared for something special. I cannot think of a groups of 5 more creative and inventive musicians in our community, and here they are… all together.

Ella Grace is an up-and-coming jazz trumpeter based in Minnesota and Chicago, where she studies jazz at DePaul University. “Ella has a big, soulful, human sound that’s unlike anyone I’ve ever heard before,” says trumpeter Marcus Printup. The Ella Grace 5tet is excited to perform a set of Ella’s original compositions! These contemporary jazz works are a mixed bag of intense, high-energy tunes, balanced with relaxing, mellow pieces.
