Our passion to support original music and Saint Paul’s rich history is reflected throughout the space. Come listen to talented artists while enjoying Food and Libations with friends. We look forward to meeting you and sharing our love of music!
Nestled in the heart of St. Paul and tucked away in the lower level of the 1920s-era Hamm Building, you will find a rare gem that is well worth the trip! kj’s hideaway – a bustling new music venue (named after owners Kris and Jeremy Siers), celebrates two years on September 17th, 2023.
Although relatively new, kj’s comes with a rich history. It’s the former home to the much beloved Artist’s Quarter (a.k.a. the AQ) and later, the Vieux Carré. Today, kj’s proudly upholds the time-honored tradition of great live music.
kj’s roots to the century-old building are further highlighted with some serious speakeasy vibes. Candlelit café tables, craft cocktails, an intimate stage dressed with black velvet and cool lighting set the scene for this charming space.
The midnight blue walls are adorned with artist’s signatures and photographs of local musicians, historical pics from a bygone era in St. Paul, and even some shots of notorious gangsters who once made St. Paul their home. A simple, yet delicious menu changes often to keep hunger at bay for kj’s guests–there to drink in some of the top talent in town.
This music venue is not exactly one of Twin Cities’ best-kept secrets. kj’s won the 2022 title of “Venue of the Year” from the Midwest Country Music Organization. Despite CMO’s award, kj’s hosts music for a wide range of genres and styles. In fact, for the last two years, it has been “home” for the long-lived “Saturday Night Jazz” series (previously hosted at Black Dog Cafe in St. Paul), headed up by composer, band leader, producer and performer Steve Kenny. kj’s has also been a vital hub for “Twin Cities Jazz Fest.” Furthermore, kj’s has gained accolades from all over the state bringing in major blues acts such as Ally Venable, Erin Coburn, and Mike Zito to name a few. Additional noteworthy highlights include Bywater Call, Joyann Parker, Avey Grouws Band, Tommy Bentz, Jennifer Grimm, and rising stars like “Frederick, the First”, Hailey James, Sarah Morris, “Miss Myra” and more!
In addition to regular acts on Fridays and Saturdays, kj’s features a variety of rotating featured acts and pop-up shows on Thursdays and the occasional “off day” like Sunday.
Every Wednesday at 7 pm, kj’s has “Open Mic,” which gives established artists an opportunity to try out new material in a supportive listening room environment. It’s also a way for budding artists to shine and share their gifts. This growing series is hosted by local talent, jazz singer and Americana songwriter, Debbie Briggs.
From jazz to country, rock to soul, Americana to blues, kj’s hideaway will satiate your appetite for top tier entertainment, and they will do it all with a heart for artists and a mission to support all things live music!
