Esteemed jazz vocalist Katia Cardenas returns to kj’s hideaway with a fresh new set of original songs, and revered covers. After presenting “Brave Enough: A Tribute to Sara Bareilles” at kj’s throughout 2022, is excited to be performing her own material. Written primarily during the pandemic, these songs reflect a new direction for Katia as she explores her own voice, shares her honest experiences of love and learning, backed by her favorite musicians: Ted Godbout (keys), Graydon Peterson (bass) and Beth Varela (drums, cello, back up vocals), and some special guests.

About Katia Cardenas:

A luminous, multi-genre vocalist, and international touring artist based in Minneapolis, MN, Katia inspires audiences with her smooth, powerful voice and infectious, uplifting energy. Katia has been described as “a young but veteran vocalist who can cover Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday, yet is equally adept at modern folk/pop/blues.” She has “the pipes to get over an R&B tune, but also has the instincts and subtlety to handle jazz standards.” (Rhythm & Grooves).

Recognized for her impeccable range, and dynamic stylings, she has been performing since an early age, and performing in the Twin Cities has been a family tradition since her father, keyboard player Mark Cardenas, appeared in “The Time” in the movie “Purple Rain.” Singing an inspired and enticing variety of musical styles with the Twin Cities’ top players, Katia has graced the stages of local venues like The Dakota, Crooners, kj’s hideaway, The Granada Theater, the Saturday Night Jazz Series, Jazz Central Studios, and The Twin Cities Jazz Festival, as well as venues in Colorado, Seattle, California and Central México.
