This group and its standards-based programming has been playing to full houses for many years going back to the early days of the Black Dog shows. Sometimes the ensemble will dedicate a given show to the standards of a specific composer or era of Jazz. The group always has Minnesota’s top Jazz musicians, and Steve Kenny is an entertaining emcee and bandleader. Expect some attempts at comedy mixed in with the Jazz performance. Also expect to hear your favorite tunes and see some of your favorite players stretch out on this artistic yet accessible material.

This trio is a new project started in late 2022 and features two of Andrew’s favorite Twin Cities veteran musicians, Fred Flowerday on keyboard and Haralds Bondaris on drums.  The style and compositions draw upon my experience living in New York City and are reminiscent of some of my favorite groups including the Yellowjackets, Chris Potter’s Underground, and The Brecker Brothers.  I’m especially excited about the trio format, which gives us the freedom to follow the music wherever it leads, and every performance is a new and fresh experience!
